AFTRA Seattle members are slated to take home several major recognitions at the annual Associated Press Television and Radio Association's annual Awards Banquet to be held at the group's convention on June 12 in Anaheim, Calif.
KING-TV's Jean Enersen, who consistently has been named the most popular and respected news anchor in the Northwest and won an Emmy for her news anchoring, has been named recipient of the 2010 Stan Chambers Award for Extraordinary Achievement.
Dave Niehaus, the voice of the Seattle Mariners Major League Baseball team since its creation in 1977, has been named as a 2010 inductee to the APTRA "Hall of Fame".
In the Association's annual Mark Twain Awards competition, covering radio and television markets in the Western United States, KIRO-TV Meteorologist Sam Argier was awarded the sole nod in the "Best Weathercast Segment" for Class One Television Markets, while KOMO-TV's news team has been nominated for for an award in the "Best Serious Feature" category.
In recognizing Enersen, the APTRA nominating committee cited her notable achievements in her specialized coverage on health issues as KING's HealthLink reporter, as well as multiple regional and national awards for documentary news reporting on a variety of issues.
Niehaus was selected as part of the Association's 2010 list of honorees for his remarkable 33-year stint with the Seattle Mariners, including calling more than 5,000 games. He is also the 2008 recipient of the Ford C. Frick Award, presented by the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame, which is considered the hightest honor in baseball broadcasting.
